Basic maintenance and servicing work on the thyristor inverter and its basic function

Part 1: 24th March 2022: 9:00-12:00 h CET

Part 2: 25th March 2022: 9:00-12:00 h CET

ABP thyristor inverters are characterized by high reliability and availability. Nevertheless, malfunctions can occur. Many of these faults are caused by defective components. The aim of this training is to enable you to check such components with simple means (multimeter) and to change them professionally. Furthermore, valuable information about possible causes of the failures and their elimination will be given. This will also be demonstrated practically on the basis of instructional films. In addition, we will introduce you to the basic operation of the inverters. The last part of the training includes the topic of the DICU. Here we will discuss DICU2 and DICU3 at the same time in two separate virtual rooms. The participant is free to choose which of these two groups to attend.

Agenda:

  • Schematic structure of a furnace system and its electrical components
  • Introduction to the basic functionalities and operating principles of semiconductors
  • Metrological inspection of semiconductor elements, especially thyristors
  • Control of the most common causes of failure for defective thyristors (circuitry, pulse transformers, water cooling)
  • Proper replacement of thyristors
  • Presentation of the basic signals within a thyristor inverter
  • Voltage and current characteristics in inverter operation
  • DICU2/ DICU3 in two separate groups:
  • – DICU 2: Understanding error messages and finding causes of malfunctions
    – DICU 3: Special features of DICU 3, advantages of DICU 3 in 24pulse systems, understanding fault messages and finding causes of faults

  • Open discussion with questions and comments

Objectives:

The participant will learn basic electrical maintenance procedures and be able to perform them with in-house resources, significantly reducing downtime.
By presenting the most common possible sources of failure, follow-up costs for spare parts will also be minimized.
The course will be based on practical experience and will be illustrated by educational films and photos. This will also make it easier for the maintenance personnel to communicate with our experts, as the components will be presented as such.

Speaker: Jörg Lenze and Matthias Klitz
